Microgreen Pea Shoots

Pea shoots are a type of micro green that allows for several harvests from the same stem. We used Dwarf sugar peas. 


These require soaking before planting. We soaked them over night changing the water once. After they germinated we added them to a tray with potting soil and our natural compost fertilizer, covered with a thin layer of soil. They are ready to harvest after about ten days. 


They should be harvested leaving the bottom leaves still intact and then 8-10 days after the first harvest you can again trim them from the top again for the 2nd harvest. You can get as many harvests as you want depending on the quality of the soil. After the 3rd harvest we typically allow them to compost and change out the soil to guarantee that we are getting the best possible nutritional value from the soil.  These do not need to be refrigerated after cutting.

Harvesting Meyer lemons

Meyer lemon season usually begins in late November or early December and ends by March. Meyer lemons have a soft yellow skin and dark yellow pulp. They are smaller in size and more round than regular lemons. They are also much sweeter than a regular lemon.

Propagating Succulents Wishing Wellness

Succulents are easy to grow through a process called propagation. By cutting a piece of succulent either with a stem or even just a leaf, with proper care you can grow a whole new plant.

Here we took a few cutting with stems from a Elands sourfig which is a succulent perennial native to South Africa. This ground hugging succulent is edible and may be used as a medicinal plant for its antiseptic properties.

Eucalyptus Oil- Natural Remedies

Eucalyptus oil has is used as a natural remedy for its antiviral and antibacterial properties.

We use eucalyptus oil to diffuse or topically as a chest rub or to ease sore muscles. 

Eucalyptus oil may be helpful as: 

RESPIRATORY SUPPORT

May help cold and flu symptoms to alleviate runny noses, coughs, and nasal congestion. Place a few drops in a large bowl with hot water and use a towel to create a steam tent. Inhale. Or use it topically by rubbing it on your chest and neck. 


MUSCLE RELAXATION

Eucalyptus has anti-inflammatory properties that can be used on sore muscles or joint pain. Just rub into skin as needed.  

ANTISEPTIC SUPPORT

Eucalyptus oil contains antiseptic qualities and helps alleviate sting and bite discomfort. It can may also be used a a mosquito repellent.

Prepare areas of your skin that need attention before entering sauna: remove lotions, makeup etc⁠

Wash your face⁠

Drink plenty of water⁠

Dry brush to activate your skin cells⁠

Use a towel to pat away sweat while in the sauna⁠

Take a cold shower immediately after your sauna⁠

Use all natural oils or hypoallergenic lotion to hydrate your skin afterwards⁠

The goal is to remove sweat, oil, or makeup from the skin. This helps clean the skin and protects against further pore clogging while in the sauna. You also want to drink plenty of purified water. Bring a bottle of water with you into the sauna and drink as you sit for the best results.⁠

Ginger for health

Ginger can be used fresh, dried, powdered, or as an oil. ⁠

Ginger has a long history of use in various forms of traditional and alternative medicine. It’s been used to aid digestion, reduce nausea, and help fight the flu and common cold.⁠

Gingerol is the main bioactive compound in ginger and research has shown it to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.⁠

We use ginger almost daily in our cooking and in tea. ⁠

To have easy access to fresh ginger whenever we need it we make ginger cakes. ⁠

Using organic ginger we pulse it in the food processor and then freeze it in a silicon mini muffin tray. Once they are frozen we remove them and store in a bag in the freezer. ⁠

Lemons contain vitamin C, soluble fiber and plant compounds that give them a number of health benefits.

Lemons are available throughout the year but here in Vegas are ready to harvest in the winter. We use several methods of preservation to get the most out of the fruit. 

Methods we use are: 

Squeezing the pure juice to freeze into cubes and use year round for teas and cooking. 

Add water and honey for lemonade and lemon tea. 

Dehydrate the lemons and peels to add to teas.
